Craft Cubed 2010
Introduction
Established in 2009, the Craft Cubed festival aims to be highly participatory and to create a space for practitioners and the public to engage with contemporary issues. The 2010 festival dates are 5 August to 4 September and the theme is Childhood.
Artists have long engaged with issues associated with childhood, and it is a particularly relevant query today as to what constitutes childhood – how do the different forms and phases of childhood affect the arts, and what is the importance of play?
Childhood is a concept that lies at the foundation of all societies, and it is where the rules of what is right and wrong are developed. It is also the origin of imagination, and in linking imagination and morality, ‘Childhood’ as a theme is intended to create a powerful arts event that explores many of the constructs associated with contemporary craft and design.
Satellite program
Thanks to all who submitted Expressions of Interest in the festival satellite program. A formal online application process for satellite events will open in late March to the general public. All those who registered interest will receive application guidelines shortly.
Call for WHITEBOX Expressions of Interest
Expressions of Interest relating to the festival theme of Childhood are currently sought for one of the festival components, WHITEBOX. We want to hear from practitioners who use online and new media resources as a component of their craft and design practice, particularly those working within the realm of stop motion animation.
WHITEBOX is an experimental, online portal showcasing projects, conjecture and commentary on craft and design from Australia and around the world. The project considers the ways in which virtual space supports, informs and influences the dissemination of craft and design knowledge.
If you are interested in being part of WHITEBOX, please send us a CV, lo-res image and a short synopsis of your project.
