Glass bottles

5 Cloud Vessels re-designs 5 glass bottles, which after being discarded, were protected and collected by a country curiosity shop. Attractive to the country visitor, their enduring material glassy qualities spoke of a life before disposable plastic containers and tetra paks. Relocating the bottles to the city context demanded a new contemplation and process of discovery in how to transform or re-purpose them.

Each glass bottle was painted afresh, like a primed white canvas waiting for a new beginning. However the original use of the bottle persisted through the markings and pressings of words in the glass, which described contents, country place of manufacture, and distribution. In contrast, the new painted white surface has now created a distinct contemporary form, and allowed the glass to adopt an ethereal opalescence with the applied printed drawings suggesting a cloud-like representation.
